FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How/Why did YAH form?
We originally started as an anti-tobacco coalition known as TobacNO. We worked to decrease tobacco use in Fort Collins with events such as our cigarette butt pick-up. Since then we have changed our name and expanded our focus, but we are still committed to educating and promoting the health of Fort Collins youth. We formed because we saw a problem with substance use and mental health among youth in Larimer County.
What does YAH do during meeting times?
Mostly, we plan the next steps in making a youth center. However, each individual meeting has different agenda items including exciting ice breakers, brainstorming and discussion, and planning new community events. If you are interested in looking at what we will be doing during our next meeting, you can look at our [calendar] as well as our Instagram page.
What does YAH do in general?
We have put on events such as Treat Yo Self, we have meetings with members every other Tuesday, occasionally, we will have non-mandatory meetings or presentations with a smaller group of YAH members. In doing this, our goal is to educate and promote local youth in being healthier.
Why do we want a Youth Center?
We want a Youth Center because of the lack of acceptance and increasing substance use in our area. We also want to increase the amount of social interaction and the accessibility of youth services and resources.
